Regional daily editor steps up to become Newsquest editorial supremo
Senior editorial reshuffle continues at publisher
A regional daily editor has stepped up to become the new editorial supremo of Newsquest in the publisher's ongoing top-level reshuffle.
Richard Porritt, editor of the Eastern Daily Press and regional editor for Newsquest's Eastern Counties titles, has been appointed as the group's editorial transformation director.
He will effectively replace Toby Granville, currently editorial development director, who is shortly to take up the role of editor of the Bournemouth Echo and regional editor for the publisher's South Coast titles.
Richard, pictured, became editor of the EDP in 2022 in succession to Dave Powles and under his leadership, it has become England's biggest-selling daily paper.
Newsquest chief executive Henry Faure Walker said: “I’m delighted that Richard is taking up this new role as editorial transformation director, reporting to me.
"Despite the structural challenges that have affected the wider sector, Newsquest has built a strong and robust local news business, and our local titles now typically reach more than 75pc of people in the markets they serve.

Richard will take up his new role on 1 July.
