Editor who fought press ban honoured with Royal garden party invite

A regional editor who struck a blow for press freedom with her stand against Reofrm UK's press ban was honoured with an invite to a Royal garden party.

Nottingam Post editor Natalie Fahy was among 8,000 guests last week at the first of three Buckingham Palace garden parties being hosted by the King and Queen.

Natalie, pictured below outside the Palace, was nominated to attend the party in recognition of her work in regional journalism.

It followed her fight against the Nottingham Post's ban by Reform politicians at Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as for her work with the government on its recently-published local media strategy.

Natalie, who took her mum along to the party, said: "I was honoured to be invited to this once-in-a-lifetime event. To be able to take my mum made it extra special.

"Thankfully, the rain held off and we didn't have to use the umbrellas we brought with us.

"The cakes were delicious and in plentiful supply, as was the tea, of course.

"It's not often you get to see so many members of the Royal family at close quarters, and the memories will stay with us forever."

The event coincided with the third anniversary of King Charles and Queen Camilla in May 2022.

Charles and Camilla were joined by Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

More than 30,000 people are nominated to attend Royal garden parties each year.

Invitations cannot be requested - attendees are nominated through a network of sponsors around the UK.
