BBC to air new drama based on legendary editor's life
Welsh actor to play journalist
A new drama based on the life of legendary editor Sir Harry Evans is set to air on the BBC.
Six-part series Dragon Slayers will explore the work of the former Times and Sunday Times editor who died in 2020 aged 92.
Sir Harry, once voted the greatest newspaper editor of all time, took on his first editorship at the Northern Echo in the 1960s.
He later went on to run the Sunday Times for 13 years. In the series, he will be portrayed by Welsh actor Matthew Rhys.
Mr Rhys, pictured, said: “At a time when stories of this nature are imperative, I am thrilled to be a part of this show.”
Peter Bowker, who will write the series, added: “Telling the story of Harry Evans and the work of his Insight team is both a privilege and a joy. And having Matthew leading the cast is more than we could have hoped for.
“All of us are now united by a desire to honour the passion, doggedness and humour of this remarkable group of people.
“I hope the drama will make us take a fresh look at both journalism and that much maligned decade – the 1970s.”
